Cousins at Christmas
Next we played "Pin the Nose on Rudolph" thanks to DH's awesome creativity. The kids loved it.
I stayed up late last night making a princess cake and cupcakes, and added icing and smarties this morning. Mmm. Princess smartie cake. I was running late, and was adding smarties half an hour before the kids were to arrive, so I didn't fool around with a face. I added a tiara and a necklace, and then stopped, because it looked fine to me. The icing impression (doesn't show well in the photo) looks a little like an abstract face. Anya asked if the necklace was her smile. Um... okay. Whatever works. :)

We played "musical socks" and "hide the sock." (I happened to have some handy.) Presents were opened, cake was eaten, and then everybody was forced outside to enjoy the fresh air. And jump on a bouncy thing. (Thanks, Auntie Jennifer!)

Friday afternoon we had a visit from Poppa, and after dinner we decided to go downtown for the city's "Christmas Walk." It was a nice walk, but a little disappointing. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I thought it would be more... Christmassy. Maybe because there was no snow. And threatening to rain. There were tons of people milling around, and we waded back and forth through the throngs to see Santa, eat candy canes, and drink hot chocolate. There were horses pulling wagons, too, but we didn't want to wait in line for a ride.

DH: Is almost done his stint as 2nd assistant camera dude. I think that's his title. He's been volunteering his time around town on a film shoot (some B-movie horror thing) to gain experience, and enjoying it, except for the long hours.
I had an awesome day on Saturday. Kyla had a spare ticket to see the Arrogant Worms in Sudbury, and Cindy offered a ride, and voila! Instant roadtrip!
Then I found Etsy. I love Etsy. I could spend hours on Etsy. www.etsy.com is my favourite place to go and hang around, browsing for hours, if I had hours. It's like a flea market and the One of a Kind Show combined. Crafts. Vintage clothing. Needlework. Handmade children's clothing. Knitted things. Earrings. (Love the earrings.) Really really interesting artsy things. Someone sells terrariums (terraria?) with moss in tiny teacups, in glass teapots. So beautiful. And you can order online and have these things shipped to your house. Go there. Check it out. I'll wait. Hours, if necessary. :)Happy Belated Thanksgiving, everyone.
I just finished baking a bunch of banana-pecan-chocolate chip muffins. I would share them with you, but the internet would get all sticky if I tried to email them to you.

New things around here, in no particular order.
I'm sorry about not posting lately, but there was A Very Important Reason. Last year, I missed every episode of House because it conflicted with Guides. (Shock! Horror!)
Memorable quotes from this week:
Total tenants now living on the third floor: 2
Bathroom plastering and painting, baby gate climbing, baby gate removalling, scissoring, crayoning, gluing, sparkly sequin crafting, backroom disastering, jumping on bed-ing, bed slats fixing, earring shopping, funnel cake eating, drive-in movie candy shopping, attempts at car tape-deck fixing, lawn mowing, phone line wiring, third floor tidying and prepping for tenanting, husband/daddy visiting, sleeping.
Well, summer feels like it's coming to a close, even though we're not even half way through August. I think it's because of all the back to school ads, and the phone calls about Anya's bus, and the school bbq coming up. September is nearly here. Anya thankfully, doesn't have to transfer busses this year. Yay! Sorry about the irregular posts. Yes, I've been busy. Here are some tidbits for you to snack internettingly on...
I looked at the forecast for Sudbury on Monday night, and it was sun, sun, mostly sunny, sun, so I decided that I would take the girls and camp on Auntie Jennifer's lawn this week. Plus there was the added bonus of seeing DH in the evenings, which was very nice. We had decided to bite the bullet last week and buy a tent big enough for all of us, so we ended up getting an 8-person with a full fly from Roots. It's an odd shape, kind of a v, 20 feet long by 12 feet wide (holy cow) and overall very nice. We had a spot of rain one night, but we stayed dry, the children actually slept in it, and DH and I were very comfy on our new queen size inflatable mattress. Ahh. Camping. Heh. I caught myself thinking that the tent should be bigger so I could stand up on either side of the mattress, before realizing that I was a spoiled brat. :)
This was the most gorgeous rainbow I've ever seen, and right at sunset, so the light was just awesome. The picture doesn't do it justice at all. It was right across the sky, and so big I couldn't take a picture of the whole thing! Here's my mangled paste up job in photoshop... the distortion near the edge of the photo means the two pics don't line up properly, but you get the idea. There was even a second outer rainbow, and inside were three or four multiple purple arcs, which didn't turn out that well.
Sorry for the lack of updates lately. Things have been busy, and I've been feeling stressed. I haven't really felt like I have enough time to be sad that my husband isn't here, but I do miss him terribly.
I took the kids to Toronto last week for a friend's wedding. Anya stayed down there with Nanny, so that's fun for her. She'll be back next week.
Jennifer came out yesterday with Sage and we had a brutal day around town shopping 'til we dropped. It was great of her to lend her car and her services to the cause. Thanks J!
The sleeping arrangements were so cute -- Sage had Dhara's bed, and Dhara and Elora slept together in the other toddler bed. They actually all slept really well together. They're getting so big now, it's hard to picture them sleeping side by side in the stroller, with big fuzzy blankets and room to spare.
What else. Um. I'm trying to patch and paint the third floor so we can rent it out as of Aug 1. It makes more sense to rent the top floor (as opposed to the back room) because it's space we're not using, and we really need to have access to both bathrooms. It means less privacy, but it'll give us the extra income, which will be really handy in the upcoming months.
If you know anyone who needs a couple of rooms, let me know.
Oh yeah, and in other news, Jennifer's computer is down and out for a while. I'm not sure when it'll be back up, but I guess we'll all just have to wait. I tried hacking her account, but she must have changed the password, darnit. :)
We have been so busy these past few days. We didn't have time to do anything for our anniversary even. B J got a three month contract in Sudbury, and is going to be living there with my dad during the week and coming home on weekends. I'm happy he got the job, but sad that he'll be gone during the week. So feelings are mixed. I just hope we get to celebrate our anniversary before he leaves on Sunday.
...that I love www.fark.com ? I do. Because they find cool internet things for me. I'm lazy that way. Stuff like this link below, a really really cool banner ad. How can a banner ad be cool? Just go. And don't be afraid to click. :)

P.S. It doesn't work in Safari, by the way. Switch to Firefox or something. I'll wait here.
I am following with interest the events happening in Iran. (I found out about it through Fark.com which started following the story early on.) Ever since the "election" on June 12, a huge number of the people have been protesting the results, there has been violence as the government tries to stifle the protests, and a full swing revolution is now underway.
What is really interesting is how the information is getting out, since Iran cut off phones and internet, and banned international reporters. At first it was just twitter posts coming through to the outside world. Now, more and more information is trickling out, and the Iran government can't stop it all.
One of fark's regular contributors has put together a website with a great summary of the players and recent events, if you're interested. The information is well researched:

Anya was miffed at me today. I was getting ready to go to the mall, and Anya was in the car already buckled in. I hadn't yet closed the side door to the minivan, when I saw my neighbour, Chantelle, and asked her if she needed anything. We chatted for a minute, and then I got into the driver's seat, whereupon Anya told me that she was mad I hadn't closed the door while I was chatting.
"Mommy, bugs could have got in!"
I said, that was ok, bugs in the car aren't that bad.
"But what if they poop?" she asked.
I had to laugh, but I honestly couldn't think of an answer for her.
Gr'Auntie Penny got the girls matching Dora jammies for Christmas, and because they were a little large, plus they've all been in the laundry at different times, I've never gotten a photo of them 'til now. I thought you might be interested in the process of a (three ringed circus) photo shoot at our house.
My criteria for a great photo
All three kids:
-With eyes open
-Smiling
-Without fingers in own mouth/eyes/nose
-Without fingers in sisters' mouth/eyes/nose
(I don't normally meet all of these conditions, and usually have to photoshop it.)
Elora, are you done flossing yet? Anya, I really think you should put the glow sticks down. I know you have trouble blinking with the flash, but don't hold your eyes open....
There, see Anya? Eyes open. Dhara, can you put your hand down?
Ok, everybody just put your hands on your knees. Please?
Daddy, do you think you could make a funny face? Or something?
Ok, that's good, look at Daddy... pay no attention to your hysterical mother.
