Pop Quiz

Question: Why is our basement empty?
A. "We really needed to de-junkify."
B. "I had an urge to mop the entire floor."
C. "I needed an excuse to call DH home from work at 2 in the afternoon on a Thursday."
D. "The basement flooded and we had to clean the entire sodden mess out."
Answer: All of the above.

Thinking how smart I was for multitasking yesterday, I started the laundry just before dragging all the kids grocery shopping around 11am. Well, the cold water hose burst while we were gone, and turned the basement into a 3 inch deep wading pool. Yippee!

No, not yippee. We got home around 1:30, so it'd had more than a couple hours to fill our brand new indoor pool. The worst part was coming in the door with Sleeping Baby #1 and hearing the strange rushing water noise from downstairs. I ran upstairs, put her in her crib, ran back outside to get Sleeping Baby #2 and Anya, run Baby #2 upstairs to her crib, grab my boots and head to the basement. I was pretty sure there would be a flood, and boy was I sorry to be right. Water was spraying everywhere, the cat food was floating, laundry on the floor was soaked, and boxes everywhere were slowly sagging their way into puddles of soggy goo.

I called DH and he came home as fast as he could. It took us all afternoon and evening to clean up, and the floor is still damp today, but at least everything is dry and either in the garage or tossed out now. Not much got destroyed, except DH's rare magazine collection and a few CD cases. Luckily most of the important stuff was above the water line.

DH's next task is to build us a bunch of shelves...

OH NO!!

I am so sorry for your trauma!! At least it was clean water? She said, trying to see the bright side... as opposed to sewage? right? count the blessings? right?

just one question... does "rare magazine collection" actually mean "box of magazines that I wish he would've thrown away and even though he's sad, I'm kinda glad they got distroyed"? Feel free not to answer publicly.
