Hallowe'en Pics

We went to a lovely Hallowe'en party held by one of the residences at the university. The kids had a blast, (avoided the haunted house) and then went trick-or-treating through the building. Fun!

Anya was a fairy princess.

Elora was Dorothy from Wizard of Oz. Here she is pumpkin bowling.

Here's a closeup of the shoes.
They were really sparkly, much more sparkly than it appears in the photos.
The shoes were almost 100% covered in glitter.
(That and red paint.) They looked really great!

Dhara was Little Red Riding Hood, here wearing Mommy's hat.
She had a great red coat which was too hot to wear inside.

Trick or treat!

Mary Poppins, if you please.

Happy Hallowe'en!

These are great photos! I can't believe how old the girls look. And the Mary Poppins outfit is awesome. I love how you posed with your heels together...it made the look.
I wanted to comment on your goal to remove refined sugar from your diet. I read it last night? I think, and I've been thinking about it ever since. I too, would like to remove refined sugar from my life. After that fleeting "yummy" feeling, I feel guilty, irritable and lethargic. My face doesn't like sugar, my body doesn't like sugar - so why do I keep consuming it? I find too, when I've been "off" sugar for a few days, I actually feel happier and seem to have more energy. Lately I've been finding that I almost have an allergic reaction when I eat sweets: my scalp gets itchy, and I feel hot and kind of jumpy. Weird, but maybe my body is telling me something.
Anyway, I wish you luck, and I am going to go cold turkey. It's hard when there is refined sugar lurking in my cupboards, but I think it's time, especially before the holidays and all the tempting chocolate treats come out. Now I just have to get past all the bake sales, including the one I am volunteering at this weekend.

I find the hardest time of day to avoid sugar is around 3pm at work, when lunch is done, and I have the munchies. I've been supplementing my energy levels with coffee, but I don't know if that's much better than sugar. :)

The other time I have problems with is late at night around 10pm. I have enormous cravings for sweets and snacks right about now, darn it. I've been trying to stave them off with tea and cashews, but it's not as satisfying for some reason.

I have been feeling fewer mood swings this week (I'm on day 7, I think) even though I should be PMSing. So I'm really pleased. But yes, cookie season is coming, and it's going to get a lot harder. Let me know how you do!

Okay, so I have been sugar-free for almost 4 days now. I feel really, really, really good! I think sometimes I have get over-saturated with sugar, and then I have more self-control to manage the cravings, because that sick-feeling stays with me. But yes, I would say mood-swings seem to be a bit more on an even keel, and although I am extremely stressed and busy right now, I feel that I can manage it. It's funny, though, I HAVE increased my coffee consumption too, as if my body needs the caffeine that's missing. I haven't had the huge cravings, and I just made a batch of squares for the bake sale tomorrow and I didn't even taste-test, so that was empowering. But it's funny, as soon as I get tired or upset, I want to turn to the sweets. And Rachel woke up at 4:45am this morning for some reason, so now is a dangerous time for me. I wish you good luck, I am inspired by your post and I have been telling my nurse buddies up here that I started this because of you! Another thing that inspires me is we had a nutritionist/herbalist come to speak at my class yesterday and she talked a lot about food combining and what happens to your gut when it has to digest foods that are not "natural". It made we want to start eating only foods that are in their whole form, like vegetables, fruit, beans etc. She did make a comment that fruit and fruit juice is so easily digested in the stomach that it provides energy very quickly. She was a big fan of juice and basically said when it hits your stomach it's like it's already chewed up and ready to go. So I think I am going to try that for when I need a little boost. But I also think I want a juicer to get carrot, beet, etc. into the drinks.
