Dear Hubby's birthday

DH's birthday was yesterday, and we had a good day. The kids were relatively quiet in the morning, and we lazed in bed for about 10 minutes before Anya came in. DH cooked pancakes and we had a nice breakfast, I gave him his present (a set of kitchen knives) and Anya made a card and gave it to him. She had written letters all over it; her name, and "DAD" -- I helped her sound it out. She said she had also written "Caillou" but I couldn't make it out. We'll just take her word for it. :)

We decided to rearrange the back room, as my computer was unusable smushed into the corner, and DH's computer desk was so tiny there wasn't really enough room for the keyboard. So we hauled down the large table style desk from the third floor. (No, it doesn't fit down the stairs, so it has to be dropped out the third floor door, over the roof and into the back room by way of the porch.) Of course it started to snow. Lovely. Luckily it didn't snow too much, and it was warm enough that it didn't stay. I was a little worried about DH on the roof, but he assured me it wasn't slippery. The table came down without incident, I am happy to report. He also dragged up the newish bedframe (we bought it a while ago) the same way. I want to turn that room on the third floor into a proper guest room with a real double bed. One day. Soon.

The kids got so crabby after that though! I wanted to put the table back together, and boy were they mad that I shut the door. Anya was whining, the babies were crying, and I'm sure poor DH was tearing his hair out trying to get them dinner. I couldn't take listening to it after a while and grabbed both babies and took off with them upstairs to calm them down so DH could deal with Anya, who was now wailing because Dhara grabbed her plate of food and spilled it on the floor. It's great the babies are walking now. And tall. Really. Anya hasn't learned their range yet, though. Hence the food on the floor.

My baking endeavours for the day weren't impressive. I had made a chocolate sauce cake, but it was dry. I cooked it in too shallow a pan. And I had also attempted nuts and bolts again, but 1. I was too impatient and turned up the heat, so it burned and B. I used more cereal than last time so there's not enough flavour for it all.

Dinner for us was leftover pizza. Hurray. We were supposed to have gone shopping for meat, but with all the goings-on of the day, we didn't get around to it. My poor husband. I'll do up a REAL birthday dinner for him sometime soon.
