Week 2
My second week at work was great. It was weird having DH at the desk next to me, but as we're both pretty busy during the day we actually don't have a lot of interaction. But I'm feeling a definite difference between "Work Husband" and "Home Husband." It bugs me that he's pretty sarcastic and verging on rude to his co-workers, when he's so sweet and sensitive at home. But as he hasn't been fired and has been there for 4 years I guess it works for him. It's strange to me that he becomes this prickly grumpy web guy at work. (Maybe it's not all that strange to everyone reading this, since perhaps you see the rude dude more often than I do.)
Anya has been really grumpy too this week, especially around bedtime. She's great during the day, but I think she's feeling the changes of getting up early every day, and Mommy being at work. She's definitely a lot more whiny, and one day last week she woke us all up at 5 in the morning yelling about her "skeeto" bites hurting. It was a full blown temper tantrum, and when I tried to shush her she got louder and louder until I had to take her downstairs to get her away from the babies' room. I'm hoping it'll be better next week.
Today was fun. We all went to the Heritage Festival where they had free bouncy inflatable things for the kids, and lots of other stuff going on. Anya loved the petting zoo, and fed llamas, goats, sheep, cows, ponies, bunnies, pigs, kangaroos, and anything else she could reach through the fence until the food ran out. They were selling little cups of feed for $1, so it wasn't too bad. We got there early so the animals were hungry and lively, but I was just imagining the animals getting stuffed after hundreds of little kids feeding them all day. Would they still be as lively later in the day? Probably not, but we didn't go back to see. Dhara and Elora were greatly fascinated by all the animals, but I was nervous about letting them get too close, so we kept them in the stroller. I didn't want any fingers nibbled accidently. Anya also had her first pony ride, and she was very excited. You should have seen her face. The smile was ear to ear the entire ride.
She loved the inflatable jumpy thingys too, except it rained overnight so everything was wet, and had puddles all over, hiding in the cracks and divots. Every kid who went on got soaking wet. Ah well. It was a nice day, and we had spare pants, so it was all good.
We managed to avoid spending any money at the midway, yay! DH went to get the car so we didn't have to walk back through all the rides. On the way in, Anya looked at every one (even the rides that went upside down!) and said she wanted to go on it. And every time, DH lined her up with the "You must be this tall to ride" sign and said, "Maybe when you're older." I hate going through the midway. Especially all the games people that call out to you to come play whatever game they're shilling. I hate being rude, but they don't take no for an answer. Everything is so expensive and I feel ripped off spending ANY money there.
Instead, we walked back through a soccer games area, that had no one in it. So sad. They had a ton of sponsors, lots of great equipment, lots of volunteers with matching t-shirts, but as they were across the road from the rest of the activities, no one was coming over. I didn't even think it was part of the festival, but apparently it was. Anya kicked a soccer ball around for a bit while we were waiting for Daddy, but we were the only ones there. I felt bad for the volunteers. It sucks volunteering for nobody.
In all, we had a great day (sadly no pictures) and it didn't rain until evening. Ta daah!
